    Synopsis
The film takes us to the Wudang Mountains in Central China, the birthplace of Tai Chi Chuan. It accompanies the martial arts master Tian Liyang and presents a landscape which is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations of Taoism. Due to its numerous cloisters and temples it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994. Even today, one of the most important Taoist gods is still worshipped in the Wudang Mountains: Zhen Wu - the warlike Emperor of the north. According to the legend, after many years of meditative exercises to cultivate body and spirit, he achieved immortality. The film team retraces the old stories and discovers sites where the atmosphere of ancient China is still palpable. Against a background of breathtaking nature, Master Tian Li yang presents traditional martial arts disciplines such as Pa Kua, Hsing-I and Tai Chi Chuan in the "Wudan style". In his flowing robe, his long hair tied up in a bun, he appears as a vision from a long forgotten age. Many sites in this film were inaccessible during the Cultural Revolution, and the Taoist exercises, which are the basis of the "Wudang style" were forbidden. The great masters were only able to pass on their knowledge to younger men in secret. Nowadays young Chinese are once again allowed to attend quite officially Martial Arts schools such as that of Master Tian Liyang.
