Storytelling Man - Spurensuche mit Henning Mankell

Synopsis
Henning Mankell. Virtually everyone recognizes this name. The Swedish
author, who lives partly in Sweden and partly in Mosambique, has long been
celebrating worldwide success with his crime novels. Millions of readers are captivated by his stories. Where does he find his inspiration?
"Storytelling Man" opens in Maputo, capital of Mosambique, with the search for that which inspires Mankell in his novels. He tells of his motives, methods, aims and omnipresent search for stories and plots. The Swedish author also creates an authentic insight into his own private life in the town of Maputo in the Indian Ocean. He writes about street children, depicted in his novel "Comedia Infantil! ", describes dealings with Aids, which is creeping through the continent, the dramatic predictions of a witchdoctor and other moving stories straight from the harsh daily life in Mosambique. Despite the stories being set in distant Africa, they manage to touch us - the hopes and fears are existentially close despite their distance. "What really makes us humans is the fact that we can tell each other stories". Mankell's conviction creates the opening and ending of the film - a declaration of his love of storytelling.
