Synopsis
Smash Lab is a groundbreaking new series which challenges a team of maverick engineers and designers to take everyday and cutting edge technology and apply it in revolutionary new ways to make the world safer. Episodes Blast Proof Building: Can the team use truck bed liner paint, normally used to protect vehicles from scratches and knocks, to protect an entire building from a massive explosion? Boat Ejector Seat: The team use parachute technology to eject someone from an out-of control-speedboat. Bomb Proof Plane: The team takes on its biggest challenge yet by trying to protect an entire passenger jet from an explosion using only a special material wrap! CO2 Cop Car: Can the team use CO2 fire extinguishers to stop a pursued runaway vehicle dead in it tracks? Crash Absorbing Concrete: Can the team use the latest aviation breakthrough to prevent a car or bus crossing the meridian and smashing into on-coming traffic? Earthquake Proof House: Can the team use Ball bearings to protect a house from a devastating Earthquake? Fluidised Sand: The team have come up with a new use for a high tech tool cleaner. They’re going use the technology of fluidised sand and stop a bank robber with it! Fireproof House: Forest fires rage every year. Smash Lab sets out to see if Nanogel, a cutting edge insulating material, can protect a house from nature’s mightiest infernos. High Rise Escape: The team plan to put magnets to an extraordinary use by using them to help people escape from a high rise inferno! Hurricane Proof House: The Smash Lab team think they have found a solution to protect American homes from hurricanes; a revolutionary new material made of carbon fibre cloth! Long Range Lifeboat: Can Smash Lab design a life-boat that can be dropped out of a long range plane to offer help in a matter of hours? Runaway Trailer: The Smash Lab crew have an outrageous new idea; can you use retro firing rockets to bring a runaway trailer to a complete controlled stop? Train Crash: Can strapping airbags to the front of a train prevent a fatal collision with a vehicle stuck at a Rail Crossing? Car Over Cliff: It’s the stuff of a hundred movies: A car hurtles off a road down a ravine. What can the Smash Lab crew do to make the drop survivable? Unbreakable Car: What will it take to build a car that can take a 50 mile an hour smash – for its passengers to walk away from? The Smash Lab crew has to build a car that can take both a head on smash – and a T-bone side impact. Unsinkable Car: It’s another iconic movie moment – a car takes a dive off a pier into the sea. Cars sink in seconds, taking its passengers with it. Now the Smash Lab team must build a car that not only must float – but be capable of driving back to land – James Bond style. Snowbound Car Escape: It’s the middle of winter in the High Sierras, and your car gets stuck in a major snowdrift. Help is miles from anywhere. The Smash Lab crew must design a radical way to escape and reach civilisation. Runaway 18 Wheeler: A stolen 30 ton 18 wheeler is impossible to stop without inflicting a lot of casualties. Impossible? That’s the mission Smash Lab chooses to accept. Rolling Logging Truck: Massive logging trucks are prone to rolling over under their massive loads. In a daring challenge Smash Lab must find a way to stop the 30 ton truck from flipping over. 13 episodes Capsized Boat Escape: In one of the most dangerous challenges of the series, the Smash Lab team recreate their own "Poseidon Adventure". They must find a way to escape from an upturned boat with no outside help.
