This documentary film is the story of the Austrian heimat researcher, Dr. Friedrich Morton (1890-1969). As a follower of the famous Dachstein researcher , Friedrich Simony, a friend of Adalbert Stifter, Morton tracked down with  unbelievable devotion, the many-shaped manifestation of nature. However, he wasn't satisfied with flora, meteorology, hydrobiology, dendrology, mineralogy and geology. He went on research trips to the North  Africa in 1913, Central America in 1929, and Abyssinia in 1931. At the same time, he studied prehistory and in the course of time, became one of the most important experts of the Hallstatt era. His commitment  to folklore and great concern for the conservation of nature and natural resources was very important. in his student days, he had already recognized the importance of photography as a complementary science for research work.

This documentary film is meant to show how fascinated Dr. Friedrich Morton was by his research work in his self-chosen lebensraum Salzkammergut.
