The North and South Poles of our planet are covered by vast, thick white sheets of ice. The Polar regions are among the most inhospitable to life on earth because of their icy temperatures, but they are still home to numerous animals. In the Arctic, polar bears hunt seals; in the Antarctic penguins breed in the wintertime, and whales eat their fill of abundant krill in the cold oceans. We accompany two researchers on Spitzbergen as they travel in a snowmobile across the pack ice, passing breathtakingly beautiful glaciers, shimmering blue in the light. We explore a fantastic ice-cavern, we watch icebergs being formed on the edge of a glacier, and we also find out how long the polar night actually lasts.
