According to international assessments some 500,000 girls and young women each year are the victims of unscrupulous pimps and human traffickers. Most of these are girls and young women from the poorest countries of Eastern Europe – Bulgaria, Romania, the Ukraine and Moldavia. They have no future perspective and no idea of the West and so they fall for the tricks of the human traffickers who promise them a super job in the Golden West – or simply abduct them. Then they are then forced brutally into prostitution, exploited, sold from one pimp to the next. Their papers are taken away from them, they speak no foreign language and are at the mercy of their tormentors. The trade with Eastern European women and girls is run by men for men. The human traffickers make money, the punters pay. In Germany approximately one million men go to a brothel every day. Sex for cash seems to be booming - now that more and more Eastern European prostitutes are “flooding” the market with cheap services. Most punters don’t know – or don’t want to know – that many of them have been forced into prostitution. For the traffickers in women an event like the football world championship means extremely welcome additional business, a chance to make quick money with euphoric or disappointed fans and enslaved women.
