The beach of the 22-hectare island Sangalaki in the Indonesian Celebes Sea is the key location for the survival of the green turtle. Turtle hunters and egg collectors had driven this species to the verge of extinction, until Indonesian ´´rangers´´ started guarding the green turtles and the population recovered once again. Now, however, the turtles are threatened by a new enemy: the rats which come with the fishing boats and the ships of the diving tourists. These threaten not only the baby turtles, but also other fauna and flora on the island. The entire eco-system of the island, a living community, to some extent quite unique, is in danger. Protectors of the species are now specialising in ´´restoring´´ these island biotopes. The film accompanies them in their attempt to rescue the island paradise. Their only weapon: poison. Its application, however, must be so exact and wellcalculated that no other animal species on the island is harmed. While the biologists patrol the 500 control points in the jungle, life goes on around them as usual. The film shows whether the animals have a future and whether the scientists were successful with their rescue attempt.
