Synopsis
Mark Brownstein, an American based in Hong Kong, is always in search of old, forgotten dishes and foodstuffs, quite unknown to us, in order to offer them to top chefs throughout the world: He is a professional flavour-seeker – food hunter. He seeks and markets flavours of all kinds throughout the world, but his main patch is South-East Asia. With him the film plunges into the cosmos of Asian cuisine. His job takes him from mountain villages, hot food stalls and jungle markets straight to urban star restaurants. In Laos he discovers a spice liana and a wild-growing species of pepper, in the Mekong Delta he finds the ultimate fish sauce. Then the food hunter is once again in metropoles such as Hong Kong or Bangkok, where he test-cooks his finds, refines them and then offers them to creative cooks.
