Synopsis
The red continent of Australia evokes yearnings for endless landscapes and unspoiled nature. And Australia is indeed blessed with fascinating flora and fauna. No matter whether it is the tropical rainforest in the north, the inhospitable semi-desert in the dry, hot outback or the fascinating mountain ranges in the south – Down Under is a paradise for nature lovers. Sandstone artworks such as the world-famous Ayers Rock are not only testaments to a dramatic geological history. They are also sacred sites of fundamental significance for the countries indigenous inhabitants. Our romantic nature journey through Australia takes the viewer not only to thrilling sites of nature, but also introduces them to many of the indigenous myths. These legends tell about a Great Spirit who, with the help of other spiritual beings, created the landscape, the plants, the animals and the people. Although they left the earth after having completed their work, the idea of “dreaming” remained. In each of the plants, animals, even in apparently lifeless rocks, one of the spiritual beings lives on. The stories of the “dreamtime“beings and their ancestors are by no means irrelevant stories. For the attentive listener they often contain evidence of knowledge which goes back thousands of years and could be of great significance for science today.
