    Synopsis
Samarkand, Bukhara, Chiva. Gleaming blue domes and towering minarets, bloodthirsty Khans and star-gazing princes, Avicenna and Omar Khayyám, Algebra and A Thousand And One Nights. Mythical cities, legendary riches concealed in barren deserts, hidden beyond forbidding mountains. Visions of trading caravans and groups of horsemen, the flair of Silk Road, the fragrance of the Orient – all these are intended to entice and ensnare the viewers. The films travel in the here and now to Samarkand, visit places which abound in stories and in history, meet people who link the present with the past. The viewer sees how people here live in this day and age, and how they search for their cultural roots in the conflict-ridden sphere of Islam, post-Communism, western hegemony and their own great past.
