Synopsis
From the first drops of water at its source in the Austrian Karwendel mountains to the estuary in the Danube near Deggendorf at the foot of the Bavarian Forest the camera takes us on a fascinating, intensive
and eventful journey. It is a living portrait of the present, a snap-shot
of the life of the Isar: how does this river appear in the eyes of the people who live on its banks, who work there, do sports,
seek relaxation or solitude, who love it or even fear it? Beginning with the world-famous mountaineer and photographer Heinz Zak, who regards the headwaters as his real home, then on to the kayaker struggling through the torrential waters above Scharnitz, to the hang-glider, rafter, hydraulic engineer, rescue pilot, biologist or even gold-washer: each
one of them has his own view of the Isar. People´s stories, the subjective viewpoints are interwoven with aerial shots of a very special kind: filming from a helicopter using the cutting-edge FLIR camera system resulted in unusual and fascinating pictures of the Isar.
