    Synopsis
The documentary “The Day When The Wave Came... Tsunami” is a meticulous portrayal of a group of people who, quite by chance, happened to be in the same place at the same time and, from one minute to the next, became – and remain - a community sharing a common fate. The place: a hotel complex in Pukhet. A middle-class hotel. At last, a few days away from Europe’s grey winter to sheer but affordable luxury: palms, pool and party. For some people. The others: the chambermaid who has a good seasonal job at the coast. The hotelier who is delighted by the good bookings for his hotel. The bar-owner targeting young customers and making a good turnover with his smart service personnel. The boat hirer, the few remaining local fishermen, the staff in the boutique behind the hotel, which also benefits from the tourist boom. And then the wave. Suddenly they are all in the same desperate situation. They all run for their lives, some are faster, others don’t make it. Suddenly there is no difference any more between those who pay and those who take. The force of nature strikes all without differentiating. The Day When The Wave Came traumatised the survivors. Never again will a wave be a wave for them, the sea a symbol of sun and leisure, nor will a blue sky make their hearts beat faster.
