Synopsis
The life-story of the cosmopolitan and visionary Stéphane Hessel is a declaration of love to the continued existence of the world. Born in Berlin in 1917 the son of writer Franz Hessel, emigrated with his mother to Paris in the mid-20´s, tracing his life-story between Germany and France. Imprisonment by the Gestapo as a member of the French resistance, death sentence and deportation to Buchenwald. The story of an improbable survival and rebirth as a diplomat: present at the founding of the UNO in New York, occupying difficult posts in Africa, as a campaigner for human rights. A historical mosaic and biographical essay about the diplomat, Ambassadeur de France and, not least of all, the child of Truffaut´s classic "Jules et Jim". Tragic and funny, topical and timeless, melancholic and very optimistic.
