Synopsis
It is the most famous panorama in the Alps – Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau – over 4,000 metres high. Courageous mountain climbers have always dreamed of gazing from these heights into infinity. Terrible tragedies occurred on the Eiger North Face before Heinrich Harrer, together with three companions, became the first to climb it. In the museum in Grindelwald one can see the motorbike on which Harrer travelled to begin the first
ascent. Today one can travel comfortably with the Jungfrau Railway to the highest railway station in Europe. Situated beneath the magnificent panorama is Grindelwald – now a centre of jet set tourism. And – since Prince Yuko Maki climbed the mountains here - a favourite destination for
Japanese tourists. The film shows this region in the heart of Switzerland where, beside the world-famous tourist spots, we also discover a pristine landscape and its people.
