A 13-episode television documentary series follows the creation of a new Cirque du Soleil production. With the preparation and launch of Cirque du Soleil´s latest touring show Varekai as the backdrop, the series offers a close-up look at the dreams, trials, and aspirations of a core group of characters selected from different areas at Cirque du Soleil. In "CIRQUE DU SOLEIL FIRE WITHIN", we share the day-to-day lives of the people who play vital roles in the making of Varekai, their struggles, hopes and dreams as they work together and relate to each other inside and outside the Cirque du Soleil´s Montreal home. The series focuses on the human experience with elements of drama, comedy, love and loss, work and play, success and failure, reality and illusion as the tension mounts and the show gets closer to opening night in April 2002. All the disparate elements must come together under the Grand Chapiteau to reach that moment when everything falls into place. The series won a 2003 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Nonfiction Program (Alternative) as well as two Gemini Awards for Best Direction and Best Reality Series.
