Synopsis
In the restaurant “Blindekuh” (Blind Man’s Buff) you can’t see your hand in front of your eyes, let alone the delicious food that is served. As the first restaurant worldwide in complete darkness, the “Blindekuh” opened its doors in Zurich in 1999. Brought into being by blind
visionaries, the project has become a unique success story and for a brief spell it reverses the roles: the sighted become blind, the blind become sighted. 20 of the restaurant’s 34 employees are blind or partially sighted. As specialists of darkness they take the guests on a journey into the dead of night. Thus they enable sighted persons to feel their way just once into their world and to concentrate on the remaining senses – touch, smell, taste and hearing. The authors took a look behind the scenes of the restaurant “Blindekuh” and accompanied three of the employees at their exceptional place of work and in their everyday life. A life which is characterised by sacrifice and hindrances – but also by incredible achievements. The film revolves around their experiences, difficulties and dreams.
