Synopsis
This dramatic documentary recounts dogged reporting by Cam Simpson, an investigative reporter for the Chicago Tribune, about 12 Nepalese men who were kidnapped in 2004 and brutally executed by an extremist Islamic group in Iraq. Simpson traces each step of the Nepalese men´s journey from the foothills of the Himalayas to their brutal murder in Iraq, in the process illustrating a vast international trafficking network. Simpson´s story sparked an investigation by the State Department´s Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Office and prompted Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ), author of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, to convene new hearings on human trafficking related to the ongoing war in Iraq. The U.S. military and Halliburton KBR denied responsibility. However, a military investigation led by General George Casey resulted in new regulations for the employment of foreign workers.
