    Synopsis
Angelique Todd from the Max Plank Institute for evolutionary anthropology in Leipzig and Cloé Cipoletta from the environmental foundation WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Germany have dedicated themselves to the research and protection of gorillas. Far removed from any form of civilisation, they live in a camp in the Dzanga-Sangha National Park in the south-west of the Central African Republic. Makumba, a huge silver-back male, is the head of a family of 16 gorillas. It took years for him to accept Angelique as an observer. The work of the researchers was constantly thwarted by various setbacks – such as malaria, poachers and attacks by wild elephants. But their dedication was worthwhile: the results of their research will contribute to the survival of the lowland gorillas.
