Synopsis
This documentary tells the story of five émigrés from Germany, France and Switzerland who have left Europe in search of a new life in the West African country of Ghana. We follow their daily routines, see the problems they run into and examine in depth how far their dreams of living in Africa have come true. Ghana lies on the so-called Gold Coast in the West of Africa. The Gold Coast is named after the former British colony; its name refers to the country's most important natural resource. Ghana is a country with a lively tradition and varied cultural identity, but also a place of stark contrast, marked by heat, dust and poverty. Nonetheless, Ghana attracts scores of Europeans seeking a new home abroad. “Akwaaba” means “welcome“ in Ghana.
